Join the Boston Public Library for an online author talk with the winner of 2020 Museum of African American History (MAAH) Stone Book Award. In Shelter in a Time of Storm: How Black Colleges Fostered Generations of Leadership and Activism, Jelani M. Favors offers a history of historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) from 1837 to the present illustrating how HBCUs became a vital seedbed for politicians, community leaders, reformers, and activists, offering students a grounding in idealism, racial consciousness, and cultural nationalism. This program will be moderated by BPL President David Leonard, who will also host the Q&A portion of this event.
